Uptown Girls Craft Show will be Oct. 26 in Brookings

The General Federation of Womens Clubs will host its ninth annual Uptown Girls Craft Show on Oct. 26 at the First Lutheran Church Gym, 337 Eighth St., in Brookings from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This one-day event unites 23 different artisans and crafters from Brookings, Hayti, Volga, Watertown, White and Minnesota and Nebraska.

Vendors will sell their handmade items featuring their own distinctive style. What better way to start the holiday shopping season than by browsing for unique quality gifts for friends, family or yourself.

New vendors

Operation Education Nairobi is a non-profit from Nebraska that provides educational scholarships for children living in poverty in Nairobi, Kenya. They sell handmade goats milk soap, paper fairy pop-up globes and ornaments, jewelry and rosaries from special handmade clay beads from Nairobi, Kenya.

Alex Inspired, from Brookings, showcases whimsical beadable items like pens, keychains, bookmarks and planter ornaments. Youll also find handsewn grocery bag holders, dishtowels, potholders and dog bandanas along with other decorative items.

Show features

Craft show guests will have the opportunity to enter into a drawing to win a door prize provided by the vendors. Everyone attending will be given a number and if that number is selected, a door prize will be awarded.

In continued efforts to help reduce childrens negative Brookings School District meal account balances, the Brookings GFWC will be accepting donations from the public. All donations will be matched up to $500 by the Brookings GFWC and donated to the school district.

The Brookings GFWC will also be selling quilt raffle tickets at $1 a ticket or $5 for six tickets. The winner will be selected at the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum Holiday Market on Dec. 14. All proceeds from the raffle will be used for future Brookings GFWC community service projects.

The Mission Coffeehouse will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be selling chicken salad sandwiches and chicken wild rice soup with sides of either chili or chips. Also available will be specialty hot and cold drinks with Ministry to Belize cinnamon rolls, muffins and other delights.

The GFWC invites women to learn more about the organization and welcome new members to join us as we improve the community by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
