HURON The Brookings Bobcats competed in their final meet of the regular season at the Roger Loecker Cross Country Invite at the Broadland Creek Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.
The Bobcats will close the 2024 season when they compete at the SDHSAA Class AA State Cross Country Meet on Oct. 26.
Boys
The Bobcats finished fifth at the invitational with a score of 96 points. Alex Diersen was the top finisher for Brookings, placing fourth with a time of 17:34.72 while Marco Springman and Shane Harming also cracked the top 20.
Springman finished 13th with a time of 18:29.98 and Harming finished 18th with a time of 18:37.13. Treysen Lounsbury finished 29th with a time of 19:18.37, Jack Bierman finished 32nd with a time of 19:24.38 and Weston Baker finished 40th with a time of 19:54.99.
Watertowns Dan Stark finished first with a time of 16:51.01, while Pierres Caleb Morris finished second with a time of 17:03.31. Hunter Patton of Mitchell finished ahead of Diersen with a time of 17:28.44 and Bryton Olson rounded out the top five with a time of 17:38.39.
Pierre finished first as a team with 74 points followed by Yankton with 77 points, Tea Area with 79 points and Watertown with 81 points.
Girls
Sophia Schmit was the top runner for Brookings, placing 30th with a time of 22:53.26. Isabel Overby placed 40th with a time of 23:23.08 and Jordyn Johnson finished 42nd with a time of 23:31.95.
The Bobcats did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score.
Pierres Emery Larson finished first with a time of 19:14.79 followed by Tea Areas Jaycie Babb (19:51.52). Watertowns Grac McElroy finished third with a time of 20:30.94 and Tea Area teammates Jayna VanLaecken (20:37.66) and Grace Bialas (20:45.10) rounded out the top five.
Pierre finished first as a team with 44 points. Tea Area was second with 51 points, Watertown was third with 80 points, Aberdeen Central was fourth with 85 points and Yankton was fifth with 98 points.
