HARTFORD The Sioux Valley Cossacks are in sixth place after competing on the first day of the Class A Boys Golf State Tournament at the Central Valley Golf Course on Monday morning.
The Cossacks sit 12 strokes out of the top five at the tournament posting a score of 346 on Monday.
Dakota Valley leads the tournament with a score of 314 while Vermillion is in second with a score of 324. Sioux Falls Christian is third with a score of 327 while St. Thomas More (329) and Aberdeen Roncalli (334) round out the top five.
Tate Steffensen led the way for the Cossacks tying for 22nd with a score of 82. Damon Uecker finished tied for 33rd with a score of 84 while Jameson Degen and Maverick Nelson rounded out the team scoring, tying for 48th place with a score of 90.
Nathan Larson also competed for the Cossacks, finishing 94th with a score of 111.
Dakota Valleys Logan Collette and Jonathan DeBoer are tied for first place after Monday with a three-over par score of 75. Harper Schnabel of Sioux Falls Christian and St. Thomas Mores Vincent Vanliere are tied for third place with a score of 76 while Cantons Carson Steffensen is fifth with a score of 77.
The state tournament will resume at the Central Valley Golf Course at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
