The Jackrabbits fell to the eighth-ranked Skyhawks of UT Martin 15-5 in their second equestrian competition of the season Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center in Brookings.
UT Martin nearly completed a sweep in both disciplines of western, boasting a 9-1 advantage against the Jackrabbits.
In reining, Ada Hirschfeld was the sole rider for the Jacks to score above 70 points, but was outscored by a 71 from Kate Davis to jump the Skyhawks to 5-0 in the discipline.
Grace Gerbus reigned victorious in her matchup against Ava Newson 71.5-69.5 in horsemanship and scored the only western point SDSU won in the two disciplines.
The Jackrabbits and Skyhawks went back and forth in scoring for flat as Sierra Elliott outscored Audrey Morris, 80-72. Kate Mills answered back in the next ride with a 75-71 advantage over Samantha Aisenberg. Hannah Steele gave SDSU their second point of the event with her score of 75 over Riliegh Weiss.
Gabby Adams of UT Martin brought the points to 2-2 with her victory over Kayla Scherer 85-76 before Elizabeth Wagner rounded out the flat discipline with a 79-60 advantage over Lydia Jordan.
UT Martin rounded out the competition in fences with a 4-1 overall advantage against SDSU.
Steele won her matchup in fences against Adams with a score of 87. Scherer (83-82), Sarah Gould (83-83) and Brooke Borges (78-77) all narrowly lost their head-to-head matchups against the Skyhawks.
