Brookings Public Librarys Disability Education Series continues with upcoming training

BROOKINGS On Sept. 5 at 6 p.m., the Brookings Public Library will host the Rocky Mountain ADA Center for a Disability Etiquette and Americans with Disabilities Act Basics training. This training is open to all community members and will be live streamed in the librarys Cooper Room, as well as available via Zoom. The Zoom link can be found on the librarys website calendar or Facebook page.

The Americans with Disabilities Act represents a historic milestone, as it is the first comprehensive civil rights law focused on people with disabilities. The ADA opens the doors to participation in state and local government programs, among other areas of public life, by prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities. This training will explain the history of the ADA and recognize its five titles. Additionally, the training will define disability and examine the rights of people with disabilities under the ADA. Participants will learn the prevalence of disability, why access matters, and best practices for interacting with people with disabilities.

This event is the continuation of a series focused on disability education that will run throughout 2024 and early 2025. These events are made possible by the Peggy Barber Tribute grant through the American Library Association. Keep an eye out for the next event in October!
