Sioux Valley and Elkton-Lake Benton were each ranked third in their respective classes in the South Dakota Prep Media Football Poll after week one.
The Cossacks were ranked third in Class 11B and received one first-place vote. Sioux Valley beat St. Thomas More 35-0 in its season opener and has a bye this week. The Cossacks will return to the field on Sept. 6 when they host Baltic at 7 p.m.
The Elks were ranked third in Class 9AA and had 36 points. ELB beat Waubay/Summit 42-0 in its season opener and plays at No. 5 ranked Viborg-Hurley on Friday at 7 p.m.
Harrisburg is the top-ranked team in Class 11AAA as the Tigers had nine first-place votes. Pierre is No. 1 in Class 11AA and received all 16 of the first-place votes. Canton is atop Class 11A with six first-place votes. Sioux Falls Christian and Dell Rapids are tied for second in Class 11A as the Chargers had five first-place votes and the Quarriers had three.
Winner remained the top-ranked team in 11B and had 11 first-place votes. Parkston is the top team in 9AA, receiving 11 first-place votes. Howard is No. 1 in 9A with all but one first-place vote and Avon remained atop 9B, receiving all of the first-place votes.
