Three Bandits named to Class A State Legion Team

BROOKINGS Three members of the Brookings Bandits Post 74 Senior American Legion Baseball team have been named to the Class A All-State team for the 2024 season.

Zach Struck, Breck Hirrschoff and Tyson Antonen were all named to the Class A second team in the yearly awards after they led the Bandits to a 26-22 record and the final day of the State Legion Baseball Tournament in Brookings last month.

Struck served primarily at shortstop for the Bandits this season and was a key component in the Brookings lineup and rotation. While Struck hit .318/.438/.418 with a home run, eight doubles, 22 runs scored, 30 RBI and five stolen bases, he also went 4-2 with a 3.41 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP with 29 strikeouts and 27 walks over 41 innings on the mound.

Hirrschoff also pulled double duty, serving as an outfielder and pitcher. Hirrschoff hit .322/.406/.467 with seven doubles, three triples 10 RBI, 19 runs scored and 15 stolen bases this season and also went 2-3 with a 6.22 ERA with 25 strikeouts and 14 walks over 27 innings.

Meanwhile, Antonen became one of Brookings top pitchers to earn the honor, going 6-0 with a 2.15 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 23 strikeouts and 16 walks over 39 innings.

The first team was heavy on the Renner Royals, who saw Sullivan Schlimgen, Kyle Konechne and Braylon Bear lead them to the Class A state championship.

The first team also included Eli Kokenge, Maddux Scherer, Braxton Kusler and Teigan Munce of Harrisburg Gold; Aiden Zerr of Brandon Valley; Lucas Kampshoff of Yankton; Sawyer Mindt of Sioux Falls East; and Lee Neugebauer, Aiden Roberts and Alex Dietrich of Rapid City Post 22.

Joining Struck, Hirrschoff and Antonen on the second team were Harrison Good of Rapid City Post 22; Jake Wheeler and Zachary Dunham of Renner; Collin Lunders, Tate Schafer, Sawyer Tolk and Caden Watson of Sioux Falls East and Tate Beste of Yankton.
