MILBANK The Sioux Valley Cossacks opened the 2024 season by finishing fourth at the Milbank POET Invitational at the Whetstone Creek Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.
The Cossacks finished with a team score of 349 and were led by Jameson Degen, who finished fourth with a score of 82. Tate Steffensen finished ninth with a score of 85 while Damon Uecker finished 13th with a score of 87 and Maverick Nelson rounded out the team score after finishing 24th with a score of 95.
Trentyn Schmit finished 29th with a score of 101 and Landon Hanssen finished 30th with a score of 102.
Watertown won the team title by two strokes over runner-up Aberdeen Roncalli (339) with a score of 337. Groton Area finished third with a score of 345 and Milbank finished fifth with a score of 355. Aberdeen Central finished fourth with a score of 400 and Sisseton finished seventh with a score of 408.
Finn Anderson of Aberdeen Roncalli, Jack Mack of Watertown and Jonathan DeBoer finished in a three-way tie for first place with a score of 81. Degen finished fourth with a score of 82 while Grotons Brevin Fliehs and Jace Johnson and Watertowns Jerome Zebroski and Gavin Neynes finished tied for fifth with a score of 83.
The Cossacks will return to action when they take part in an invitational at Dells Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids at 9 a.m. Monday.
