Were grateful for the publics input thus far, and we want to give everyone the opportunity to see the most recent concepts and offer feedback before the final plan is adopted this fall.

Public engagement has been a vital part of the strategic planning process to help reinvigorate downtown Brookings, Beckman said. The City of Brookings and its partner agency, Downtown Brookings, are leading the master plan efforts with consultants from RDG Planning & Design.

Since January, the public has been invited to share their likes, dislikes and ideas aboutdowntown Brookings through an online interactive map and public engagement sessions in March and April.

This strategic planning process is dependent on input from community members, visitors, business owners, and others who care about downtown Brookings, Beckman said.

The master plan will strategically shape the future of downtown Brookings by establishing a shared vision for future community and economic development. It is intended to be a long-term vision that will guide aspects such as land use, urban design and housing. The plan will aim to improve theoverall walkability and connectivity of downtownBrookingswith the existing neighborhoods and businesses, enhance the attractiveness, and preserve the historic character. The study area encompasses several blocks on all sides of Main Avenue.

This plan will provide a roadmap for future policy and programming, encourage public and private investment, and ultimately improve the quality of life in the community, Beckman said.
