BROOKINGS Harrisburg eliminated Rapid City Post 22 and Renner stayed undefeated on day three of the Legion State Baseball Tournament in Brookings on Thursday.
Each team secured victories in five innings due to the 10-run rule. Harrisburg won 15-5 and Renner beat Watertown 10-0.
Watertown will take on Brookings in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Friday and Harrisburg will play Renner at 7 p.m. If Harrisburg loses they are eliminated and if they win they will play the winner of Watertown and Brookings on Saturday.
Harrisburg 15, Rapid City Post 22 5 (5 inn.)
Harrisburg pounded the ball as they had 13 hits and won via the 10-run rule in five innings.
Teigan Munce was the star of the show as he went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and hit a three-run home run in the second inning.
Harrisburg scored four runs in the first inning. Jack Riley led off the inning with a double and then Max Carlson was hit by a pitch. Maddux Scherer grounded into a fielders choice and Carlson was out trying to get second. Munce hit Riley home with a single and then Eli Kokenge hit one over the left field fence to make it a 4-0 ball game.
Rapid City got on the board in the top of the second. Hayden Holec was walked to lead off the inning and then he scored on a ground out from Tate Crosswait.
Harrisburg answered with six more runs in the bottom of the inning. Coen Cook singled, Carter Gronseth walked and M Carlson was hit by a pitch to load the bases up with one out. Scherer hit a two-run single to push the lead to 6-1. Munce then came to the plate and hit the three-run bomb that cleared the Bob Shelden Field scoreboard in left center field. Palmer Boyd hit an RBI double for the final run of the inning.
The Hardhats got four of those runs back in the top of the third. Dawson Inhofer and Aiden Roberts each walked to begin the inning. Inhofer scored on a single from Jace Morgan and Roberts scored on an Alex Dietrich ground out. Morgan scored on a single from Holec and then he scored on an error by the center fielder to make it 10-5.
Harrisburg once again answered as they scored four more runs in the bottom of the inning. Carlson and Scherer each singled to lead off the inning and Carlson came home on a Munce double. Kokenge was then walked to load the bases up and three more walks scored three runs to extend the lead to nine heading into the fourth.
Neither team scored in the fourth but Harrisburg ended the game in the fifth. Boyd led off the inning with a double and then a double from Gronseth scored the game-ending run.
Kokenge was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Boyd and Scherer were each 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Gronseth was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Cook was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Carlson was 1-for-2.
Braxton Kusler pitched a complete game for Harrisburg. He gave up five runs, three earned, on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Rapid City had four hits in the game. Morgan was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Holec was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Harrison Good and Dietrich were each 1-for-3.
Renner 10, Watertown 0 (5 inn.)
The Royals dominated Watertown in the game between undefeated tournament teams on Thursday night as they won in five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Renner got on the board with one run in the first inning. Kyle Konechne and Sulivan Schlimgmen each walked with one out and Zach Dunham hit Konechne home with a single.
The Royals then scored three runs in the second. Jacob Docter and Jacob Sanderson led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Doctor scored on fielders choice and Sanderson scored on an error to make it 3-0. Schlimgmen then hit an RBI double to push the lead to four heading into the third.
Renner added four more in the third. Brody Jacobsen led off the inning and reached on a dropped third strike. Doctor then walked and each runner advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Charlie Huerners hit both runners home with a single and he made it to third on the throw to home. Konechne then hit him home with a double to extend the lead to 7-0. Konechne scored on a wild pitch for the final run of the inning.
Renner scored a run in each of the fourth and the fifth to end the game. Konechne hit an RBI single in the fourth and Brylon Bear hit a game-ending RBI double in the fifth.
The Royals had 12 hits as a team in the victory. Konechne was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Hueners was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Bear was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Dunham was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Schlimgmen was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Hunter Den Boer was 1-for-1. Docter was 1-for-2 and Jacobson was 1-for-3. Sanderson was 2-for-2.
Rylan Arbogast pitched a complete game shutout for the Royals. He gave up six hits and had two strikeouts and two walks.
Kaden Rylance was 2-for-3 for Watertown and Talan Jurgens, Hayden Ries and Markus Pitkin were each 1-for-2. Mitch Olson was 1-for-3.
