WATERTOWN The Brookings Bombers Black 14U baseball team lost the first game of the State Tournament, falling to Watertown 6-2 on Thursday night.
The Bombers took an early lead when Nolan Krogman doubled to lead off the top of the second inning and advanced to third base on a passed ball before scoring on a wild pitch for the first run of the game.
Watertown tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning and took a 2-1 lead when a run scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth. Watertown broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
Brookings scored the final run of the game when Krogman walked and scored from first on Dixon Dauers double in the top of the sixth inning.
Baker Hanson started for the Bombers, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Mason Diers allowed one walk and struck out one batter while getting the final two outs of the sixth inning.
Ben Schulte went 1-for-4 with a double. Dauer went 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Henderson went 1-for-2 with a walk. Krogman went 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Brookings will face Yankton in the second game of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
