BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers White 13U/14U team was swept in a doubleheader against Harrisburg on Monday at Bob Shelden Field.
The Bombers are now 3-19 on the season. They have two doubleheaders left in the regular season and then will play in the State Tournament in Brandon on Aug. 2-4. Brookings hosts Watertown on Tuesday at noon and then will travel to Aberdeen on Thursday and that doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m.
Game 1: Harrisburg 12, Brookings 7
Ten runs in the top of the fourth for Harrisburg put game one away. They led 2-0 after the first inning. Their first run of the game came on an error and then a run scored on a ground out to give them a 2-0 lead.
Brookings scored four runs in the bottom of the third to gain the lead. Landon Mosley drew a one-out walk and then advanced all the way to third on two wild pitches. He then made his way home on a Mack Nelson single to make it 2-1. Jonathan Lacher-Strarace then hit Nelson home with a single and Kuddyer Baugher hit a two-run single to give the Bombers a 4-2 lead.
Harrisburgs first run of the fourth came from an error and then an RBI single tied the game. Two more RBI singles put them up 6-4 and then two runs from an error stretched the lead to 8-4. A run from a wild pitch, a two-run triple and a run on a steal of home made it 12-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Delton Brownell hit a two-out single and then scored on a steal of home in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-5. Baugher then hit an RBI single in the fifth and Jaxson Neuharth hit an RBI single as well to make the final 12-7.
Brookings had eight hits. Baugher was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Lacher-Strarace was 2-fo4-3 with an RBI. Neuharth was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Nelson went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Brownell was 1-for-3 and Hudson Vincent was 1-for-2.
Nelson pitched the first two innings for the Bombers. He gave up two unearned runs on one hit with one strikeout and two walks. Lacher-Strarace pitched the next inning and a third and gave up eight runs, three earned, on three hits with five walks. Jonas Murray pitched the final inning and two thirds and gave up two earned runs on two hits with a strikeout and a walk.
Game 2: Harrisburg 14, Brookings 6
Brookings and Harrisburg were tied 4-4 heading into the fourth but Harrisburg outscored the Bombers 10-2 in the final two innings and completed the doubleheader sweep.
Harrisburg led 2-1 after the first inning. They scored a run on a ground out and a single in the top of the first. Brownell drew a walk to lead off the second and then scored on a Baugher single to make it 2-1.
Harrisburg then scored two runs in the top of the third. The first run came on a wild pitch and then a run from a ground out made it 4-1.
Brookings answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Nelson and Baugher drew walks and Murray reached on an error to load the bases up with one out. Nelson scored on a wild pitch and then both Murray and Baugher scored on a single from Warner Carroll to tie the game.
A bases loaded walk and a run from a wild pitch gave Harrisburg a 6-4 lead in the fourth. Then a three-run inside the park home run pushed the lead to 9-4. Another run from a wild pitch made it 10-4 heading into the bottom of the final inning.
Harrisburg scored a run on a ground out and then an RBI single made it 12-4. A two-run double extended the lead to 14-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Nelson led off the final half inning with a single and then scored on an error. Murray reached on the error and then scored on a steal of home to make the final 14-6.
The Bombers had four hits in the loss. Baugher was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Carroll was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Nelson and Liam Johnson were each 1-for-2.
Lincoln Damm pitched the first three innings. He gave up four runs, two earned, on one hit with four strikeouts and three walks. Aiden Adelmann pitched the next two thirds of an inning and gave up six runs, five earned, on three hits with one strikeout and four walks. Carroll pitched the final inning and a third and gave up four earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.
