BROOKINGS Weather permitting, the city will conduct community-wide mosquito ground fogging today between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight. This will include bike trails and parks.
Inclement weather or winds higher than 15 mph will cause fogging to be suspended and rescheduled.
The mosquito-control equipment is noisy. The pickups travel about 10 to 15 mph with flashing yellow and white lights, so people can easily recognize them.
Although mosquito-control insecticides pose low risks, some people may prefer to minimize or avoid exposure to these chemicals. Some common-sense steps to help reduce exposure include staying indoors during the fogging activity and closing windows and doors.
