Dawn Johnson from the Family Back 2 School project accepts a check from Optimist Club of Brookings President Jan Stange.
Johnson explained the one-day school supply giveaway for families who need assistance, which is slated for Aug. 7. Families need to apply by July 26. The project started in 2008 serving 258 children and served 550 in 2023. In addition to supplies, students receive a backpack and a voucher toward shoes.
