The Get Excited for the Red, White and Blue competition for kindergarten through 12th graders, sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary, encourages musically inclined students to enter. The students are asked to sing the Star Spangled Banner in the music genre of their choice; however, the words to the national anthem cannot be changed.
The auditions must be submitted on a CD for judging. The students are informed of the competition at the beginning of the school year. The entries must be submitted by March 31.
This year’s winners were, at the high school level, Brookings High School freshman Kyle Gayne; and, at the grade school level, Camelot Intermediate School fifth-grader Lydia Ellsworth.
