BROOKINGS The pickleball court project at Hillcrest Park is trucking along, Park & Recreation Board members learned at their June 3 meeting.
Josh Bauman, the assistant director of the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, said the base course the 4 to 6 of gravel that goes down prior to the placement of concrete was finished May 31. This week at the latest, the plan is to have the main fence posts put in, along with sleeves for the nets.
He said placement of concrete is tentatively planned for the week of June 24 and lighting equipment is expected to show up the week of July 8. Bauman noted that after being placed, the concrete will require a 30-day cure time before surfacing can be applied.
As of right now, theyre still on track with everything even with some of the rain that weve had everything is still moving along as it should, he said.
Department Director Kristin Zimmerman also pointed out that if everything goes to plan, the ribbon cutting for the pickleball court will take place in late August.
In other news, board members learned:
- The Pioneer Park Bandshell project remains on course to meet its July 4 completion date ahead of the Brookings Summer Arts Festival. Zimmerman said when the brick faade was removed, historical scalloping was discovered as well, and steps have been taken to preserve it as work moves along.
