BROOKINGS The Mission of the Month for June at the Mission Coffeehouse at First Lutheran Church is Belize Connecting to Corozal: Scholarships for Sharlone, Ashton and Linde.
Education for Ashton, Linde and Sharlone is their path out of poverty, and they know it.
Missionary Dee Shanley writes, Being thankful for Gods blessings in ministry, the Belize mission team supports Ashton, Linde and Sharlone from a small poverty-stricken village near Corozal, Belize, Central America.
In 2012, 10 people traveled to Belize to represent First Lutheran Church in mission. Trusting God to be a blessing to others, our team provided tuition scholarships to these three. By connecting and partnering with this family and by returning year after year, a relationship centered in Christ has been established.
Stanley said, We first met Ashton when we conducted a Christian outreach program for children in a vacant lot near his home in Corozal. Ashton immediately drew our attention because of his joy-filled singing and natural leadership among the others. Ashton easily recites Bible verses and knows many stories, too. Today Ashton attends a trade school. His older sister is Linde studies at a four-year church school. The oldest brother Sharlone is finishing his degree at a community college evening school.”
