Elkton-Lake Benton drops final two games at State Tournament

ABERDEEN Elkton-Lake Benton took eighth place in the Class B Softball State Tournament over the weekend as the Lady Elks fell in both of their consolation games on Friday and Saturday.

Eighth-seeded ELB finished the year with a record of 7-13 and lost to No. 4 Gayville-Volin 15-3 and No. 6 Deuel 10-0.

Friday

Gayville-Volin 15, Elkton-Lake Benton 3 (5 inn.)

Nine runs between the third and fourth inning from the Raiders allowed them to win via the 10-run rule.

ELB took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Maddi Ramlo led off the game with a triple and then scored on a Abbie Timm ground out. Gayville-Volin then tied on an error and a two-run triple gave the Raiders the lead. A two-run home run from Kendra Beeck-Waterman put the Raiders in front and a run on a passed ball made it 6-3 Gayville-Volin heading into the second.

The Lady Elks got one run back in the second. Jocelyn Prosch led off the inning with a walk advanced to second on a Keira Larson single. She made it to third on a Jalyn Freichs walk and then scored on a Asheya Flores single to make it 6-3.

Gayville-Volin pushed across six runs in the third. The first run of the inning came on a fielders choice and a Paisley Dimmer RBI single made it 7-3. The next run came on an error and an RBI single from Andrea Miller made it 10-3. Hailey Adams then hit a two-run single and the Raiders took a 12-3 into the fourth.

Three more runs from the Raiders in the fourth pushed the lead to 12. M Achen hit an RBI double and Miller followed with an RBI triple. Miller then scored on a wild pitch to make it 15-3 heading into the fifth.

ELB went down one-two-three in the fifth and the Lady Elks that sent the Lady Elks to the seventh place game.

The Lady Elks had five hits as a team. Prosch, Larson, Flores and Madde Jensen all went 1-for-2. Flores had two RBIs. Maddi Ramlo went 1-for-3. Timm had an RBI without a hit.

Kylie Ramlo got the start in the circle for ELB and pitched two and two thirds innings. She gave up 12 runs, 10 earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Maddi Ramlo pitched the final inning and a third and gave up three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Saturday

Deuel 10, Elkton-Lake Benton 0 (5 inn.)

ELB lost via the 10-run rule again in the final game of the tournament. The Lady Elks were unable to get a hit against the Cardinals.

Deuel went up 3-0 in the first inning. The first run of the game came on a fielders choice and then the Cardinals scored two runs on an error to make it 3-0. They added runs on a Gracyn Gohring single in the second and a Sara Kreger ground out in the third.

The Cardinals pushed five runs in the fourth. The first run came on a passed ball and Katrina Haberg scored on a ground out to make it 7-0. E Schiernbeck then hit a two-run single and an RBI double from Kreger made it 10-0 heading into the fifth.

The Lady Elks got two runners on but were unable to push any runs across and ELBs season came to an end.

Kylie Ramlo pitched a complete game for ELB. She gave up 10 runs, seven earned, on five hits with five strikeouts and eight walks.
