Dozens of Brookings-area track and field athletes named Academic All-State

Thirty-nine athletes from five different area teams were recently named Academic All-State Track & Field.

The criteria for being named to Academic All-State includes the athletes must be a senior, have a 3.5 GPA or higher, have competed in the sport for three years and be nominated by their head coach.

Class AA

Brookings

The Bobcats had 21 athletes that made Academic All-State. Nine boys and 11 girls. The boys were Owen Burns, Cade Christianson, Joey Fitzpatrick, Luke Hanson, Jordan Mofle, Nathan Smith, Griffen Suarez, Elie Wongondombi and Jacob York. The girls included Karly Brinkman, Amber Brockberg, Alaina Evans, Mischa Janssen, Emerson Kjelden, Elise Lefers, Maizy Mathis, Lily Murray, Addison Smetana, Elly Stahl, Cierra Strand and Anya Toft.

Class A

Elkton-Lake Benton

ELB had five athletes named to Academic All-State. Caedmon Bressler, Riddick Westley, Kylie Ramlo, Zoey Greer and Marcela Meijia were the representatives for the Elks.

Class B

Colman-Egan

The Hawks had two girls and two boys make it. Lanie Mousel, Daniela Lee, Jonathan Keyes and Karson Quale were made Academic All-State for the Hawks.

Deubrook Area

The Dolphins had eight representatives, four girls and four boys. Kadence Bowne, Delaney Pedersen, Akasha Gorecki and Madalyn Bauman were the four girls and Colton Trooien, Landen Johnson, Riley Niehus and Jace Vomacka were the boys.

Iroquois/Lake Preston

Faith Steffensen was the lone member of Academic All-State for the Sharks.
