SIOUX FALLS Brookings Bombers White began the 13U/14U season on Tuesday night with a doubleheader against Sioux Falls Post 15 and the Bombers lost both games.
Sioux Falls won the first game 16-1 in three innings and then took the second game 14-12. Brookings will have two weeks off as it does not play again until June 11. The Bombers will host a doubleheader against Aberdeen and the first game will begin at 3 p.m.
Game 1: Sioux Falls 16, Brookings 1 (3 inn.)
Brookings trailed 13-0 after the first two innings and then were unable to close the gap below 15 in the third and fell via the 15-run rule.
Sioux Falls led 7-0 after the first inning. The first run came on a wild pitch and the next one came on a ground out. Three more runs on wild pitches and two runs on an error by the catcher made it 7-0.
They followed with six runs in the second. Runs on a single, a sacrifice fly and an error made it 10-0. An RBI single and back-to-back bases loaded walks made it 13-0. Brookings lone run of the game came on a single from Jonas Murray in the top of the third but
Sioux Falls scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. The first run came on a bases loaded walk and the next came on a fielders choice. The final run of the game for Sioux Falls came on a single.
Brookings had three hits. Murray was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Mack Nelson was 2-for-2.
Aiden Adelmann pitched the first inning for Brookings and gave up seven runs, two earned, on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks. Kale Weiker then pitched a third of an inning and gave up six earned runs on two hits with one strikeout and three walks. Lincoln Damm pitched the final inning and gave up three earned runs on one hit.
Game 2: Sioux Falls 14, Brookings 12
A fifth inning rally from the Bombers came up just short in game two.
They fell behind 9-0 in the first two innings. The first run of the game for Sioux Falls came on an error. A run on a wild pitch and three-run double made it 5-0. Runs on a ground out, wild pitch, passed ball and error made it 9-0 heading into the third.
Brookings got on the board with three runs in the third. Murray led off the inning with a walk and then made his way home on a double from Nelson. Nelson scored on an error by the catcher and Adelmann followed that with an RBI single to make it 9-3.
Sioux Falls pushed the lead to 10 in the bottom of the inning. The first run of the inning came on a ground out and an error by the catcher and a balk made it 13-3 heading into the fourth.
The Bombers scored three runs in the top of the fourth. They led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Damm and Kuddyer Baugher hit back-to-back RBI singles to cut the lead to eight and a bases loaded walk made it 13-6.
A run on a double play made it 14-6 heading into the final half inning. Baugher was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then four-straight walks made it 14-11. Jaxson Neuharth was then hit by a pitch as well to pull the Bombers within two but a strikeout ended the night for Brookings.
The Bombers had five hits. Adelmann was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Baugher was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Nelson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Damm was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Neuharth, Mosley and Delton Brownell all had an RBI without a hit.
Nelson got the start for the Bombers and pitched the first inning and two thirds. He gave up nine runs, two earned, on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Hudson Vincent pitched the next inning and a third and gave up four earned runs on one hit with four walks and three strikeouts. Brownell pitched the final inning and gave up one unearned run on no hits with two walks and no strikeouts.
