South Dakota State wins fourth straight commissioner’s cup

SIOUX FALLS For the fourth consecutive season and ninth time in program history, South Dakota State has won the Summit League Commissioners Cup.

The Jackrabbits claimed the top spot by earning 91.5 total points between their mens and womens programs, which included four combined regular season and championship titles that counted towards the cup. SDSU distanced itself in the Commissioners Cup standings finishing directly ahead of South Dakota (83) and North Dakota State (73.5).
South Dakota State University is now tied Oral Roberts for the most combined cups in league history.

The SDSU womens basketball became the first team in Summit League history to run the table in regular season play in back-to-back seasons, going 18-0 and 16-0 in respective years. The Jackrabbit mens basketball program found its way back to the top of The Summit League standings in 2023-24 to earn the conference regular season and tournament titles, improving its conference championship overall tally to 16 since 2012.

South Dakota States soccer team, which finished second in the leagues regular season standings, won its seventh Summit League tournament title in the fall. The fall season also saw the Jackrabbits mens cross country team take home a league-record eighth consecutive Summit League Championship title.

The spring saw SDSUs softball team earn its fourth consecutive regular season title. SDSUs mens golf team finished runner-up at The Summit League Championship, the programs best finish at the event since 2019.

South Dakota State previously won the Commissioners Cup in 2010-11, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23.

SDSU also claimed the Dr. William Steinbrecher Mens All-Sports Award standings for the ninth time in the last 12 years, finishing with 38 points to top the Bison by six points. St. Thomas was third with 29 points thanks to a regular season championship in baseball.

Additionally, the Jackrabbits took second place in the Dr. Helen Smiley Womens All-Sports Award standings for the third straight season. South Dakota took the top spot with 55.5 points, followed by States 53.5 points. USD and SDSU distanced themselves from the 3-5 finishers in NDSU (41.5), Denver (40) and Omaha (39.5).
