SIOUX FALLS Sioux Valleys Donovan Rose qualified in two events and the Flandreau 1600-meter sprint medley relay team finished third on the first day of the SDHSAA Class A State Track & Field Meet at Howard Wood Field on Thursday afternoon.
The State Meet will conclude at Howard Wood Field on Friday. All area qualifiers, which were determined by the winner of each heat and the three next fastest times in each event, and top-five finishers are listed in the agate below.
Sioux Valley
Rose qualified in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.93 seconds and in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.15 seconds. His times were the third-fastest in the 100-meter prelims and the fourth-fastest in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles.
The Cossacks boys 4×800-meter relay team of Brock Christopherson, Carson Wosje, Brady Hiltunen and Mitchell Guthmiller finished fourth with a time of 8:21.31.
Flandreau
The Fliers made the podium in the 1600 meter sprint relay as the team of Ella Hoffman, Kiley Westberry, Morgan Sheppard and Faith Wiese finished third with a time of 4:19.42.
Estelline/Hendricks
Sadie Johnson was the lone competitor for the Redhawks on Thursday and she came in fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet and seven inches.
