Arlington and Flandreau saw their softball seasons come to a close as the Cardinals and the Fliers lost in the SoDak 16 on Wednesday.
The No. 14 seeded Cardinals were downed by No. 3 seeded Alcester-Hudson 8-4 in Class B and No. 14 seeded Flandreau fell to No. 3 seeded Tea Area 11-1 in six innings.
Alcester-Hudson 8, Arlington 4
ALCESTER Three runs in the final two and a half innings allowed the Cubs (18-6) to pull away from the Cardinals (8-11) and advance to the State Tournament.
Arlington scored first in the top of the third inning. Ellisyn Vincent walked to begin the inning and then stole second base. She advanced to third on a steal and then scored on an error to make it 1-0.
The Cubs answered with three solo home runs and a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-1 heading into the fourth. Arlington then struck for four runs in the top of the fourth. Brenley Goebel hit a one-out single and then scored on a steal of home. Madalyn Madsen then hit an RBI single and scored on a passed ball to make it 5-4 heading into the fifth.
Alcester-Hudson extended the lead to 7-4 in the fifth with a two-run single. Another RBI single in the sixth made it 8-4 heading into the seventh. The Cardinals went down one-two-three in the seventh and their season came to an end.
Arlington had four hits in the game. Goebel and Madsen were each 2-for-3.
Addalyn Steffensen pitched a complete game for the Cardinals. She gave up eight runs, five earned, on 14 hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
Tea Area 11, Flandreau 1 (6 inn.)
TEA The Titans scored in every inning en route to the State Tournament. They led 3-1 at the end of the first as the lone run of the game for the Fliers came on a sacrifice bunt from Addy Hammer. That came after a triple from Sadie Iott.
The Titans first run of the game came on a bases loaded walk. They followed that with a two-run double to make it 3-1. An RBI single and a run from an error made it 5-1 heading into the third.
Tea then scored two more runs on an RBI single in both the third and the fourth. A two-run single in the fifth put the Titans two runs away from the 10-run rule and a two-run double sixth finished the game and ended the season for the Fliers.
Flandreau had four hits. Iott was 2-for-3 and OIivia Peters and Layla Latterall were each 1-for-2.
Peters pitched the first four innings for the Fliers. She gave up eight runs, six earned, on seven hits with one strikeout and six walks. Nicole Hamilton pitched one and a third innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
