I write this letter in support of current District 7 Rep. Roger DeGroot based on the leadership he has provided for his constituents.
In the past, in his role as the superintendent for the Brookings School District, Roger and I worked together for the successful passage of the bond issuance related to the construction of the much-needed K-3 grade school now known as Dakota Prairie. His insight and leadership were instrumental to the bond committee on which I served. Roger and I worked together on several presentations within the community to ensure voters were informed and educated on the issue. The result was an educational facility that will serve students, and the community of Brookings, for years to come.
In 2023, as a member of the House, Roger was a strong supporter of Senate Bill 21 which was crafted for the purpose of establishing an infrastructure framework intended to spur workforce housing. Affordable housing is a challenge in virtually every community in South Dakota and Rogers efforts led to the successful passage of this critical legislation. In the end, the Housing Infrastructure Financing Program was created and is now administered by the South Dakota Housing Development Authority.
This program has awarded millions of available federal dollars to assist with infrastructure needed for new or expanding affordable housing projects throughout the state.
Roger has made a career out of public service, and I urge you to support him as he seeks re-election to the South Dakota House, representing District 7, as we need his leadership in Pierre now more than ever.
