Brookings County Museum opening for summer

VOLGA The Brookings County Museum in Volga will open for the summer on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

Shirley Deethardt of Aurora, president of the Brookings County Historical Society and the museum, said the complex in Volgas city park will be open seven days a week from 1 to 4 p.m. throughout the summer.

Dozens of museum volunteers have been working for the past several weeks preparing new historic displays, including a large, new display of womens clothing and accessories through the years.

The museums six building complex also has among its thousands of artifacts a ready-for-use Belle City threshing machine, life-sized fiber glass horses hitched to early farm equipment, an original 1872 log cabin and the 1889 District 89 Medary Township one-room county school.

Admission to the museum is free, and volunteers are available to assist museum visitors.
