BROOKINGS A blaze involving a 15-passenger van in Brookings on Tuesday night resulted in significant damage to the vehicle, but no injuries.
Brookings Fire Chief Pete Bolzer told the Brookings Register that the incident occurred in the 1700 block of Elmwood Drive and was reported at approximately 9:11 p.m. Three fire engines and 16 firefighters responded, he added, and were on the scene for 30 minutes. The blaze, which originated in the engine compartment, was contained to the van.
The cause wasnt known as of Wednesday morning, Bolzer said when asked about what people can do to avoid such fires. As such, it is difficult to recommend anything other than proper seasonal maintenance of your vehicle.
