BROOKINGS Brookings Superintendent of Schools Summer Schultz sent an email to district parents on Tuesday morning regarding apparent robocalls received at district offices.
The Register sent a list of questions raised by the letter which were not answered by press time.
The letter reads as follows:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Overnight, two of the school offices received robocall messages. The call referenced a previous court case out of Utah and the potential consequences to children. While it did not specify our state, Brookings, or school district, I want to ensure you are informed without causing unnecessary concern.
It’s important to note that no immediate threat exists to our school district or community. We have taken proactive measures by promptly informing law enforcement authorities, collaborating to identify the call’s origin, and ensuring additional awareness of the situation.
The safety and security of our staff and students are of the utmost importance, and I appreciate your cooperation with this situation. We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the continued safety of our school community.
If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Dr. Schultz
Superintendent
Brookings School District
The letter did not specify whether robocall meant an autodialer or a voice over internet protocol call.
The Register sent the following list of questions without response:
What did the call say that it rose to the level of sending an email to all parents about it?
What court case out of Utah?
What “consequences to children”?
What law enforcement agencies are involved with the response?
What “necessary precautions” are being taken that were not already being taken?
What “cooperation with this situation” are parents offering?
