B2B Dance Performance celebrating 30 years in Brookings

Three decades of premium dance education right here in Brookings. Over the years, hundreds of dancers have walked through the studio doors and have walked out with a love of dance, self-confidence and passion for the arts.

Brookings to Broadway Dance Company started in February 1994 by Jennifer DeFelice, sister of Cindy Casper of Brookings.

Jennifer came from New York and opened the studio, and began teaching ballet, tap and jazz.

The first recital was on a flatbed hay trailer in the Hy-Vee parking lot. In 1999, Carolyn Knutson bought the studio and moved it to 418 Main Ave., where it remained until 2021.

Today, Brookings to Broadway has a new home and a new name: B2B Dance Performance. The new studio is located at 2610 Wilbert Court.

B2B Dance Performance has three dance studios spaces with raised hardwood floors and a small boutique. They offer ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, Celtic, competition and mini-hop to dancers ages 3-18. Carolyn and her youngest daughter Monica Knutson manage the studio.

Things have changed over the past 30 years, but some things will always remain the same: B2B Dance Performance believes that every child should be given the opportunity to express themselves through dance, learn to work with others, find self-confidence and acquire grace and poise.

The public is invited to a performance on May 17 at 7 p.m., where B2B will celebrate its 30th dance recital at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center at South Dakota State University. Tickets are available at the door for $10.

We have come a long way since the flatbed hay trailer, and we took forward to continuing to provide high quality dance education for the next 30 years, B2B said in a news release.
