On Tuesday, a Brookings County grand jury indicted Glazier on further charges: Second-degree rape, aggravated assault and first-degree burglary.
Brookings County States Attorney Dan Nelson sent a statement on the indictment to the Register:
The case was presented to a grand jury yesterday and they returned an indictment. Given Mr. Glaziers violent history and the nature of the current allegations, we requested the $50,000 cash only bond as he awaits trial on this matter. As we do in all cases of this type, we will work closely with the victim to pursue justice on her behalf and ensure Mr. Glazier is held accountable.
Second-degree rape is a class 1 felony in South Dakota, punishable by up to 50 years in prison and a $50,00 fine or both. Aggravated assault is a class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, a $30,000 fine, or both. First-degree burglary is class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison, a $50,000 fine, or both.
The indicted assault charge supercedes the original charge, aggravated domestic assault.
According to the probable cause statement at the time of Glaziers arrest, police were performing a welfare check on the alleged victim and Glazier fled the residence when they arrived. The victim told officers that Glazier had demanded to go through her phone and when she refused he became upset and punched her with a closed fist on her head.
The report details attempts to strangle the woman and more violence, including blood at various places in the residence and a hole in the wall.
The officers also placed Glazier on a parole hold, as he was out on parole after being sentenced to 10 years in prison, with another five suspended, for another aggravated domestic assault.
Glazier pleaded guilty in February of 2020 to assaulting a woman in Brookings on Halloween of 2020.
In that incident, Glazier was arrested after strangling a woman who jumped from her second-story balcony to get away from him.
At that sentencing, Circuit Judge Dawn Elshere cited 14-15 prior instances of domestic violence involving Glazier, according to the Brookings Register report.
Glaziers suspended sentence and parole time from the previous charge could also be reinstated by the boards of pardon and parole, who will likely look to the outcome of this case, Nelson said.
