BROOKINGS A Brookings resident is facing a pair of charges following a Sunday night domestic dispute that turned violent.
Evan A. Floyd, 19, is facing aggravated assault domestic and false imprisonment charges, per a probable cause statement from the Brookings County States Attorneys Office.
He was in court on Monday for a hearing, where he was released from the Brookings County Detention Center on a personal recognizance bond.
The incident started unfolding at approximately 8:10 p.m. when officers with the Brookings Police Department were called to a residence on Southland Lane.
The subsequent investigation alleged Floyd physically assaulted his 20-year-old girlfriend, according to a Monday news release from the BPD. Floyd also kept her from leaving by taking the keys to her vehicle.
The incident involved alleged strangulation and a knife, according to the probable cause statement.
The statement also noted the presence of a 10-month-old baby during the dispute.
Floyds next court date is set for April 22.
Second domestic incident
In a second, and unrelated, domestic abuse case, Jonathan Bunten, 40, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, is facing a single charge of domestic simple assault following a Monday night incident at a motel in Brookings.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. at the Sonshine Inn, 108 Sixth St., according to a Tuesday morning release from the BPD, and involved Bunten and his 27-year-old girlfriend. After an alleged physical assault, he was arrested and taken to the detention center.
Bunten was in court on Tuesday for a hearing, where he was released from the detention center on a personal recognizance bond.
His next court date is tentatively set for April 15.
