Alek Martin receives at-large bid to NCAA nationals

INDIANAPOLIS South Dakota State 149-pounder Alek Martin earned an at-large selection Tuesday to the 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, becoming the eighth Jackrabbit wrestler to qualify for next weeks event.

A sophomore from St. Paris, Ohio, Martin was one of four at-large selections in his weight class after compiling a 20-10 overall record that included a 3-2 mark and a seventh-place finish at this past weekends Big 12 Wrestling Championship. He will be competing at the national meet for the first time in his career.

The Jackrabbits eight selections to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships ties the program record for the most qualifiers in a single season that was set last year.

In addition, redshirt freshman Luke Rasmussen was selected as the second alternate in the heavyweight division. Rasmussen compiled a 17-13 record during his first season in the lineup while finishing seventh in his weight class at the Big 12 Wrestling Championship.

The three-day NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships run March 21-23 at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Pairings and seedings will be announced on NCAA.com at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
