Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) continues to bring inquisitive people together in their communities. Through OLLI classes, members will engage their mind and senses by learning for the love of it. No tests, no grades, just fun, knowledge and enjoyment!
Spring semester
Registration is open for the spring semester from March to May. Brookings OLLI has scheduled 45 in- person classes, while Sioux Falls has 60 and Vermillion offers 25. There are also 34 Zoom classes. The Brookings classes cover a wide range of topics. There are classes in Creative Arts, Expanding Your Mind, History and Current Events, Health and Wellness, Science and Technology, and Tours and Travel. There is no limit in the number of classes you take in any location or Zoom. If a class is full, there will be a wait list. Please sign up anyway because OLLI can make adjustments and there is an excellent chance of getting in.
Featured classes
City of Brookings Police K9 Program will be on March 21. This class will introduce you to the K9 program and a demonstration of K9 Teddis abilities. There will be numerous facts presented and time for questions for the handler, Officer Seth Bonnema, and Brookings Police Chief Michael Drake.
A Koselig evening in Norway
Register for this class by April 5 to enjoy another delightful OLLI evening with The Pheasants Michael Johnson. Partake in uniquely Norwegian foods and learn about Norwegian folk dress. This event will take place on May 19.
Kokedama
Learn How to Create your own Distinctive Living Artwork by Laurie Carruthers is on April 16. Kokedama (meaning moss ball) is a Japanese method that entails wrapping moss around a soil sphere with an ornamental plant thriving on the surface developing into a captivating living creation.
A career in the FBI
On April 18, you can learn what it takes to have a career in the FBI. Learn about the hiring process, training regime, duties, job description and other requirements of the FBI.
