Copper wire stolen from site in Aurora

AURORA The theft of around 500 pounds of scrap copper wire from a business in Aurora is being investigated by the Brookings County Sheriffs Office.

The theft occurred at 9:30 p.m. Sunday and was reported at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Wednesday news release. The stolen wire, taken in the 100 block of Rylee Road, is valued at an estimated $1,500, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring wrote in the release.

Security footage showed two suspects entering the secure area of a business and taking the wire, which was contained in a bin. The suspects used a wheelbarrow to load the wire and move it to another site, using several trips to empty the bin of its wire. Sebring wrote that area residents are requested to check their private camera systems for suspicious activity during this time.
