SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State junior guard Zeke Mayo helped lead the Jackrabbits to two victories recently and for his efforts was named on Monday, March 4, as the TicketSmarter Summit League Mens Basketball Peak Performer of the Week by the conference office.
Mayo was SDSUs top scorer in wins over North Dakota and North Dakota State.
Mayo scored 26 points, had eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in SDSUs win in Grand Forks Thursday. His performance propelled the Jackrabbits to The Summit League regular season title, the programs ninth in the previous 12 seasons.
The Lawrence, Kan., native continued his strong play in Fargo on Saturday. Mayo recorded 19 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Combined between the two games, Mayo went 18-for-29 (.621) from the floor and 8-for-14 (.571) from 3-point range.
The weekly honor is the second of the 2023-24 season for Mayo. He previously earned the accolade three times during the 2022-23 season.
South Dakota State begins its Summit League Mens Basketball Championship on Saturday, March 9. The Jackrabbits will face either Oral Roberts or South Dakota at 6 p.m.
Brooklyn Meyer
South Dakota States Brooklyn Meyer picked up her fourth TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Performer of the Week accolade of the season, the conference office announced Monday.
Meyer, a sophomore, averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in a pair of wins last week as the Jackrabbits completed the conference regular season unbeaten. She was 21-for-24 from the floor last week for a blistering .875 field goal percentage. The wins secured the regular season title outright and the top seed at the 2024 Summit League Womens Basketball Championship.
In the 103-47 win over North Dakota, Meyer went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field en route to a team-best 17 points. She also pulled down five rebounds, dished out four assists and blocked a pair of shots.
In the regular season finale against North Dakota State, she once again paced the Jacks matching her career-high 29 points on 14-for-17 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds. The Larchwood, Iowa, native also added three assists, a block and a steal to the stat sheet.
The Jackrabbits have collected eight of 17 possible Summit League Peak Performer honors this season, including each of the last four. In addition to Brooklyn Meyers four awards, Paige Meyer has earned it three times and Madison Mathiowetz once.
