BROOKINGS A Brookings resident is facing a pair of charges simple assault against a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest following a Friday morning incident near hotel on the citys east side.
Dylan J. Rittershaus, 27, was arrested after officers with the Brookings Police Department were called to the Hampton Inn & Suites at 3017 LeFevre Drive, per a Monday BPD news release. The call came in at 11:05 a.m. for a report of an unruly guest making threats and refusing to leave the premises.
The responding officer found Rittershaus in the Cenex gas station parking lot at 3045 LeFevre Drive, according to a probable cause statement from the Brookings County States Attorneys Office. After some back-and-forth involving a steel mug wielded by Rittershaus and a Taser drawn, but not used, by the officer, Rittershaus was safely taken into custody.
Rittershaus already had an active warrant for simple assault domestic, according to the BPD release. He remained in the Brookings County Detention Center as of 11 a.m. today.
