BROOKINGS Seven area wrestlers have qualified for this years SDHSAA Girls State Wrestling Tournament, which will take place Thursday through Saturday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls.
The Brookings Bobcats lead the way with five qualifiers, including top seeds Johanna Steinlicht and Maizy Mathis.
Steinlicht, the top seed at 145 pounds, has a perfect 29-0 record this season while Maizy Mathis is the top seed at 165 pounds after posting a 21-2 record this year.
Lily Toft will represent the Bobcats at 107 pounds after going 14-6 this season and Bailey Tekrony will wrestle for Brookings at 114 pounds after finishing with a 16-7 record this season. Cierra Strand will also represent the Bobcats with a 23-10 record at 132 pounds.
Sioux Valleys Summer Guthmiller is also a top seed in this years tournament, qualifying with a 36-3 record at 132 pounds.
Flandreaus Julie Pitsenberger also qualified for the tournament with an 11-10 record and will wrestle at 132 pounds.
First-round matches for this years tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday.
