CASTLEWOOD The Sioux Valley Cossacks earned a pair of wins on the road as the boys and girls basketball teams won both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday night.
The Cossacks will wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader against Garretson on Thursday night.
Girls
Sioux Valley 53, Castlewood 38
The Cossacks and Warriors played to a 16-16 tie in the first quarter before Sioux Valley won the second quarter 19-7 to take a 35-23 lead into halftime. The Cossacks led 46-29 at the end of the third quarter and held on as Castlewood won the fourth quarter 9-7.
Kailey Cradduck led the way for SIoux Valley, scoring 18 points to go with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Keyra Kruse had 11 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals while Talya Vincent had 10 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and two steals. Liberty Trygstad had seven points and four rebounds off the bench.
Cassidy Kirwan led Castlewood with 16 points, three rebounds and an assist while Presley Knecht had eight points, three rebounds and two steals. Sophia Kudrna had six points, six rebounds, a block and a steal.
Sioux Valley shot 38 percent in the game including 7-for-30 (23.3%) on 3-pointers. The Cossacks made 8-of-10 (80%) free throws, committed 17 turnovers and out-rebounded Castlewood 35-16.
Castlewood shot 25 percent including 6-for-16 (23.3%) on 3-pointers. The Warriors made 8-of-14 (57.1%) free throws and committed 19 turnovers.
The Cossacks improved to 14-5 on the season.
Boys
Sioux Valley 48, Castlewood 41
Sioux Valley took an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 26-24 at halftime. Castlewood tied the game at 33-33 at the end of the third quarter before the Cossacks pulled away with a 15-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Maverick Nelson had 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block while Jace Christensen had 13 points, three assists and two steals in the win. Maxwell Engebretson had 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals while Alec Squires had eight points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist. Hudsyn Ruesink also grabbed 10 rebounds in the win.
Byron Laue led Castlewood with 10 points and seven rebounds while Lane Tvedt had eight points and seven rebounds and Jamison Keszler had eight points and five rebounds.
Sioux Valley shot 36 percent in the game including 8-of-22 (36.4%) on 3-pointers. The Cossacks made 4-of-7 (57.1%) free throws, committed 17 turnovers and out-rebounded the Warriors 34-26.
Castelwood shot 29 percent including 4-of-23 (17.4%) on 3-pointers. The Warriors made 7-of-10 (70%) free throws and committed 15 turnovers.
The Cossacks improved to 17-2 on the season.
