Cossacks sweep doubleheader in Parker

PARKER The Sioux Valley basketball teams swept a doubleheader against Parker on Saturday. The Cossack boys improved to 16-2 with a 72-37 victory and the girls won 83-50 to move to 13-5 on the year.
Both teams play at Castlewood on Tuesday night. The girls will play at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow.

Boys

Sioux Valley 72, Parker 37

Alec Squires led the way for the Cossacks with 36 points. He was 16-of-20 from the field and also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Sioux Valley 19-14 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Parker 22-5 in the second quarter to take a 41-19 lead into halftime.

The Cossacks then extended their lead to 62-30 at the end of the third quarter and relaxed in the fourth to get their 16th win of the season.,

Sioux Valley shot 53.4% from the field and was 4-of-20 from three. Maxwell Engebretson had 14 points and four assists. Maverick Nelson had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Pheasants shot 34.8% from the field and were 4-of-11 from three. They were led by Ray Travnicek who had 12 points.

Sioux Valley had 31 rebounds and Parker had 26. The Pheasants had 16 turnovers and the Cossacks had 11. Sioux Valley was 6-of-9 at the free throw line and Parker was 1-of-2.

Girls

Sioux Valley 83, Parker 50

The Cossacks tied the school record for most 3-pointers in a game on Saturday as they were 18-of-41 from beyond the arc.

Talya Vincent and Isabelle Bloker each knocked down six threes. Vincent had 26 points and six assists and Bloker had 18 points. Kailey Cradduck and Liberty Trygstad each made three 3-pointers. Cradduck had 17 points and eight rebounds and Trystad had nine points.

The Cossacks led 25-4 at the end of the first quarter. They then scored 28 points in the second and led 53-27 at halftime. Sioux Valley extended its lead to 74-40 at the end of the third and won by 23.

Sioux Valley shot 44.9% from the field for the game and Parker shot 28.3%. The Pheasants were 2-of-14 from beyond the arc. They were led by Meah Wright who had 10 points. Katie Bilas had eight points and Jenna Van Velzen had seven points.

Sioux Valley had 44 rebounds and Parker had 31. The Cossacks had nine turnovers and the Pheasants had 12. Sioux Valley was 2-of-4 on free throws and Parker was 13-of-22.
