Local girls hockey: Brookings Rangers drop games to Sioux Falls, Aberdeen

The Brookings Rangers lost both of their games this weekend, falling to Sioux Falls 8-0 at the First Bank & Trust Rink at the Larson Ice Center on Friday night and falling to Aberdeen 3-0 at the Aberdeen Odde Ice Arena on Saturday night.

The Rangers are 5-7-0 on the season and will travel to Rapid City for two games with Rushmore on Feb. 10 and 11.

Friday

Sioux Falls 8, Brookings 0

BROOKINGS The Flyers scored twice in the first period and scored three times each in the second and third periods to defeat the Rangers on Friday night.

Zoe Gorra led off the scoring with an unassisted goal at 7:10 of the first period before Ragyn Peska gave Sioux Falls a 2-0 lead on a power play goal from Rylan Peska at 13:40 of the first period.

Madeline Abbott scored on assists from Zoe Gorra and Ragyn Peska 16 seconds into the second period and Kazhmyr Menough scored with an assist from Rylan Peska 57 seconds later to make it a 4-0 game.

After Abbott scored her second goal of the game on the power play from Halle Watson at 10:08 of the second period to put the Flyers up 5-0, Lily Gorra, Emma Honner and Lilyana Knutson scored goals in the third period to cap the scoring.

Rorii Quam started for Brookings and made 37 saves as the Rangers were out-shot 45-12 in the game. Sioux Falls converted both of their power play opportunities while the Rangers did not have a power play.

Saturday

Aberdeen 3, Brookings 0

ABERDEEN The Cougars avenged a previous loss to the Rangers, scoring twice in the second period and adding another goal in the third to defeat Brookings on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period, Addyson Keller led off the scoring with a goal from Rachel Siefken at 1:01 of the second period. Alyssa Roerich did the rest from there, scoring back-to-back goals with an assist from Kailyn Poppen at 10:28 of the second period and Alli Stoltenburg at 10:06 of the third period.

Quam made 23 saves for the Rangers, who were out-shot 26-10. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
