High school girls basketball roundup: Deubrook Area, Elkton-Lake Benton pick up wins

Deubrook Area and Elkton-Lake Benton picked up victories as part of Tuesdays area girls basketball slate.

Deubrook Area 45, Madison 35

MADISON The Dolphins took control in the first half and didnt let up as they defeated the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

Deubrook Area led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter before using a 12-4 advantage in the second quarter to take a 25-13 lead into halftime. The Dolphins continued to lead 34-21 at the end of the third quarter and held on despite a 14-11 advantage for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter.

Kadence Bowne led Deubrook with 16 points and nine rebounds to go with three steals. Kyarra Blum had eight points and three steals in the win while Mataya Gouws had six points and five rebounds.

Ella Malone led Madison with seven points off the bench while Callie McDermott had six points, five rebounds and two assists. Audrey Nelson had five points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal while Karley Lurz had five points and five rebounds.

Deubrook shot 24 percent in the game including 3-for-20 (15%) on 3-pointers. The Dolphins made 12-of-20 (60%) free throws and committed 15 turnovers.

Madison shot 26 percent from the floor including 5-for-25 (20%) on 3-pointers. The Bulldogs made 4-of-7 (57.1%) free throws, committed 25 turnovers and out-rebounded the Dolphins 48-40.

Elkton-Lake Benton 41, Deuel 40

ELKTON The Elks held on to pick up a one-point victory over the Cardinals on Tuesday night.

Deuel took a 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 20-17 at halftime before ELB took a 32-27 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Cardinals out-scored the Elks 13-9 in the fourth quarter but ELB was able to hold on for the win.

Kylie Ramlo led the way for the Elks with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Tevan Erickson also had a big night, scoring 13 points to go with seven steals, five rebounds and three assists.

The Elks shot 30 percent from the floor including 1-for-7 (14.2%) on 3-point attempts. ELB made 8-of-16 (50%) free throws and grabbed 28 rebounds in the win.
