High school boys basketball: Elkton-Lake Benton holds on to beat Deuel

ELKTON The Elkton-Lake Benton Elks took a lead in the first half and led wire-to-wire in a win over Deuel on Tuesday night.

The Elks jumped ahead 15-6 in the first quarter and led 32-23 at halftime. ELB held on to lead 43-36 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Cardinals 12-11 in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.

Colt Beck had 19 points, three rebounds and three assists in the win while Carson Griffith scored 10 points with six rebounds and a steal. Tanner Drietz had nine points, five rebounds and two assists while Eliot Erickson had four points, three rebounds and two assists.

Gabe Sather and Troy Jenson each had 14 points for the Cardinals while Trey Maaland had 10 points and Robert Begalka had six points.

ELB shot 47 percent from the floor in the win including 9-of-23 (39.1%) on 3-pointers. The Elks also made 4-of-9 (44%) free throws and committed 14 turnovers.

ELB improved to 5-8 with the victory and will host De Smet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
