On Sunday, 59 Girl Scouts from the Brookings service unit gathered to prepare for cookie season at an Axalotl-themed cookie rally.
The girls learned about safe selling practices, goal setting, customer service and much more. Selling cookies is the main fundraiser for troops. Cookie sales provide funds for girls to participate in a variety of activities, including earning badges, travel and community service events.
Being a Girl Scout exposes youth to a variety of new skills and interests. Girls are able to learn about airplanes, create their own games, write and publish books and so much more.
This year the Brookings unit will have over 100 girls selling cookies.
The youngest girls will be just learning about counting money and trying to establish a new troop. Meanwhile, the older girls are fundraising for the opportunity to travel with Girl Scouts and learn about and experience Savannah, Georgia.
Regardless of each individual troops goals, the Brookings service unit leaders say they are proud to have such wonderful girls with hearts for servant leadership. Options are available to donate cookies to local heroes as well.
