Local girls hockey: Brookings Rangers claim third in Wisconsin tournament

MADISON, Wis. The Brookings Rangers girls varsity team came in third place at the CAN/AM Tournament in Wisconsin this past weekend. The Rangers had a record of 2-1-1 in the five games in the tournament.

Game 1

Brookings 2, Lake City 2

Neither team scored in the first period. Brookings then scored two goals in the second period. Brynnlea Peterson scored the first goal and it was assisted by Miyah Foerster and Abriana Peterson. Kinzley Grendler then found the back of the net later in the period to put the Rangers up 2-0. That goal was unassisted.

Lake City would then score two goals in a span of one minute and 33 seconds during the third period and that made the game end in a tie. Brookings outshot Lake City 29-5.

Game 2

Brookings 6, Kansas City Storm

Neither team scored in the first period but the Rangers then scored five times in the second period. Grendler scored the first goal of the game and was assisted by Graciana Peterson and Shauna Pederson. Sawyer Triplett scored a little over a minute later and her goal was assisted by Grendler.

Grendler then scored again a little under three minutes later and this time she was assisted by Anna Rasmussen and Triplett. Foerster found the back of the net a minute later and was assisted by Rasmussen and Triplett. The final goal of the period was Grendlers third of the game and it was assisted by Rasmussen and Foerster.

Brookings tallied one more goal in the third period. Foerster netted her second of the game and was assisted by Julissa Peterson and Triplett.

Brookings outshot Kansas City 43-24.

Game 3

Brookings 5, Chesterfield 0

It was another dominating win for the Rangers and they scored one goal in the first period. Grendler got the Rangers on the board in the first and was assisted by Foerster.

Brookings added two goals in the second period. Grendler scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 and Rasmussen extended the lead to three with a goal that was assisted by Grendler and Triplett.

The Rangers scored two more goals in the third. Grendler completed her second straight hat trick and her third goal was assisted by Julissa Peterson and Maya Edmison. Rasmussen then netted her second goal of the game and it was assisted by Graciana Peterson.

Brookings outshot Chesterfield 38-23.

Game 4

Omaha 3, Brookings 0

The Rangers suffered their only loss in the fourth game. Neither team scored in the first period and Omaha got on the board in the second with one goal. The Lady Lancers then scored two goals in the third to make it a 3-0 victory for Omaha.

Brookings was outshot 27-13.

Bronze medal game

Brookings 3, Chesterfield 0

The Rangers bounced back in the bronze medal game with a 3-0 victory of their own. It was 0-0 heading into the second period and the Rangers scored two goals in the second frame.

Ava Kahle got the Rangers on the board with an unassisted goal. Triplett then doubled the lead with a goal a minute and a half later. Brookings put the game away late in the third with an unassisted goal from Foerster.

Brookings outshot Chesterfield 34-22.
