The Brookings Rangers boys varsity team improved to 12-0 on the season as they beat Sioux Falls East, Sioux Falls West and Sioux Center over the weekend.
The Rangers will play a pair of games in Rapid City next weekend as theyll play Rushmore on Feb. 3 at 8:45 p.m. Central time and Rushmore again on Feb. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
Friday
Brookings 7, SF East 1
BROOKINGS The Rangers scored two first period goals. Jay Harris got on the board first and his goal was assisted by Tre Christopherson and Ren Jacobsen. Owen Schnedier then scored an unassisted goal later in the period to make it 2-0.
The Rangers increased their lead to 3-0 in the second period. Talon Hyde scored a little over five minutes into the period and was assisted by Harris and David Brink.
Sioux Falls East scored its lone goal of the game 2:30 into the third period. The Rangers then rattled off four straight goals to put the game out of reach. Riley Linstad scored the first goal of the third period for the Rangers and was assisted by Brink and Harris.
Jacob Kahle then scored an unassisted goal and that was followed by back-to-back power play goals from Schneider and Kahle. Luke Honkomp and Harris assisted Schneiders goal and Schnieder and Honkomp assisted Kahles goal.
Brookings outshot Sioux Falls East 36-19. Egan Jensen had 18 saves for the Rangers.
Saturday
Brookings 3, SF West 2
BROOKINGS It was a much closer affair on Saturday night. Each team scored in the first period. Brink scored on the power play just three minutes into the game to put Brookings up 1-0. His goal was assisted by Jacobsen and Kahle. The Flyers then scored five minutes later on the power play to tie things up.
Brookings would then regain the lead a little under three minutes into the second period. Schneider scored on the power play and was assisted by Honkomp and Harris to put the Rangers up 2-1. That score stood until the third period.
The Rangers doubled their lead 6:32 into the final period. Cooper Deatherage found the back of the net and he was assisted by Linstad. The Flyers cut the lead to one with 6:32 left in the game but were unable to tie it up and the Rangers hung on for the win.
The Rangers had 28 shots and the Flyers had 20. Addison Ronning had 28 saves for Brookings.
Sunday
Brookings 11, Sioux Center 0
SIOUX CENTER The Rangers were back to their goal scoring ways on Sunday.
Schneider led the way with three goals and two assists. Kahle had two goals and two assists and Linstad also had two goals.
Deathrage, Deathrage, Hyde, Jackson Heller and Andrew Hahn all had one goal. Deathrage also had an assist. Honkomp had three assists. Christopherson, Harris, Jack Merrit and Cody Jacobson all had one assist.
Brookings outshot Sioux Center 52-6. Jensen had the shutout for the Rangers.
