High school basketball roundup: Colman-Egan, Arlington, Elkton-Lake Benton girls all victorious

Six area basketball teams played over the weekend and three of them came away with victories. The Colman-Egan, Arlington and Elkton-Lake Benton girls all claimed wins while the Estelline/Hendricks girls and Colman-Egan and Iroquois/Lake Preston boys came away with losses.

Girls

Colman-Egan 46, De Smet 38

COLMAN The Hawks were able to pull away in the second half on Friday night. Colman-Egan led 15-11 at the end of the first but the Bulldogs were able to tie things up at 22-22 at halftime. The Hawks then outscored the Bulldogs 12-7 in the third and then were able to have a 12-9 advantage in the fourth to secure the win.

Colman-Egan shot 40% from the field and was 6-of-23 from three. Kaylee Voelker led the Hawks with 16 points. Lanie Mousel had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brynlee Landis had 11 points and five rebounds.

De Smet shot 27.3% from the field and was 5-of-27 from three. The Bulldogs were led by Hazel Luethmers who had 19 points and five rebounds. Brooke Jennings had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Colman-Egan improved to 9-5 and hosts Bridgewater-Emery on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Arlington 57, Estelline/Hendricks 40

ARLINGTON The Cardinals improved to 11-2 with the victory. They led 13-8 at the end of the first and extended the lead to 28-12 at halftime. Arlington would then lead 41-26 at the end of the third and were able coast to the win.

Arlington shot 44.7% from the field and was 4-of-15 from three. Jaelyn Huntimer had 19 points to lead the Cardinals. Jolyssa Steffensen had 11 points and Harley Johnson had 10 points.

Estelline/Hendricks shot 42.4% from the field and was 5-of-14 from three. Sadie Johnson led the Redhawks with 12 points. Ayla Texley had 10 points.

The Cardinals play at Deubrook Area at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Redhawks fell to 7-6 and host Waubay/Summit at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Elkton-Lake Benton 48, Great Plains Lutheran 43

WATERTOWN The Lady Elks improved to 8-4 with the narrow victory. They trailed 9-7 at the end of the first quarter but then led 21-19 at halftime. GPL would then take a 34-32 lead into the fourth but ELB outscored the Panthers 16-9 in the final quarter to give them the five-point victory.

Kylie Ramlo led ELB with 25 points, six rebounds and four steals. Tevan Erickson had 15 points, six steals, three rebounds and three assists.

The Panthers were led by Halle Bauer who had 13 points. Olivia Holmen and Madeline Prahl each had nine points.

ELB hosts Deuel on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.

Boys

De Smet 70, Colman-Egan 30

COLMAN It was a tough night for the Hawks as they fell behind 27-7 in the first quarter. De Smet then extended the lead to 47-16 at halftime and led 58-26 at the end of the third.

Colman-Egan shot 27.5% from the field and was 3-of-20 from three. Jase Mousel led the Hawks with 19 points. Jackson Zwart had nine points.

De Smet shot 57.1% from the field and was 8-of-19 from three. Tom Aughenbaugh had 20 points to lead the Bulldogs. Britt Carlson had 16 points and George Jensen had nine points.

Colman-Egan fell to 4-6 and plays at Chester on Monday at 7 p.m.

Castlewood 80, Iroquois/Lake Preston 36

LAKE PRESTON The Sharks dropped to 2-11 with the loss. Castlewood led 25-19 at the end of the first and took a 51-26 lead into halftime. The Warriors extended their lead to 63-31 at the end of the third and cruised to the victory.

Lucas Presley led ILP with 10 points. Josh McMasters had nine points and two steals. Ryne Greene had nine points.

Jamison Keszler had 22 points to lead Castlewood. Lane Tvedt and Bryan Lane each had 16 points.

ILP plays at Wessington Springs on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
