College men’s basketball: Jackrabbits fall to Oral Roberts in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. The South Dakota State men dropped to 12-10 overall and 5-2 in the Summit League on Saturday night as the Jackrabbits lost a shootout to Oral Roberts, 87-82.

The Jacks fell behind 23-13 10 minutes into the game. SDSU cut the lead to 29-26 with 3:30 left in the first half but the Golden Eagles (10-11, 4-4) scored eight straight points to end the half and took a 37-26 lead into halftime.

SDSU then trailed 44-31 two and a half minutes into the second half but the Jacks went on a 11-0 run to cut the lead to two with 14:49 left in the game. The Jacks were down 50-47 with just under 13 minutes to play and ORU went on a 10-3 run to push the lead to 10 with 9:26 remaining.

ORUs largest lead of the night came with 6:32 left as the Golden Eagles led 70-55. SDSU wouldnt go away though as the Jacks went on a 16-5 run to cut the lead to four with 2:35 left. The Golden Eagles led by four with one minute left and DeShang Weaver scored on an offensive rebound and that put the game out of reach with 28 seconds left.

Weaver led the Golden Eagles with 32 points. He had a career-high eight 3-pointers. Isaac McBride had 19 points, six assists and five rebounds. Jailen Bedford had 12 points and five rebounds and Kareem Thompson had 10 points and nine rebounds.

ORU shot 45.2% from the field and was 14-of-33 from three. SDSU shot 45.3% from the field and was 11-of-26 from three.

The Jacks were led by Zeke Mayo who had 23 points, seven assists and six rebounds. William Kyle III had 16 points and nine boards. Kalen Garry had 15 points. Charlie Easley had 12 points and six rebounds. Matt Mims had nine points and Luke Appel had seven points.

SDSU had 39 rebounds and ORU had 33. The Jacks had 10 turnovers and the Golden Eagles had six. SDSU was 13-of-14 at the free throw line and ORU was 17-of-20.

The Jacks will return home for a pair of rivalry games this week. Theyll host North Dakota State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and then will take on South Dakota on Sunday at 4 p.m.
