KANSAS CITY The South Dakota State women extended their win streak to eight games on Thursday night as the Jackrabbits beat Kansas City 72-49 at the Swinney Center.
The Jacks trailed 12-10 at the end of the first quarter but then outscored the Roos 21-9 in the second and took a 31-21 lead into halftime. SDSU really turned it on at the beginning of the second half as it outscored Kansas City 32-14 and took a 53-35 lead into the fourth. The Jacks had a 14-9 advantage in the fourth to make it a 23-point victory.
Paige Meyer and Tori Nelson each had 14 points to lead SDSU. Nelson had six rebounds, four assists and three steals as well and Paige Meyer had five assists. Madison Mathiowetz had 12 points and five assists. Brooklyn Meyer had 11 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Madysen Vlastuin had nine points.
The Jacks shot 41.9% from the field and were 5-of-18 from three. They were 15-of-19 at the free throw line. SDSU held Kansas City to 30.5% shooting from the field and the Roos were 6-of-19 from three and 7-of-1 on free throws.
The Roos didnt have anyone score in double figures. Nariyah Simmons led them with nine points.
SDSU had 42 rebounds and Kansas City had 39. The Jacks forced 21 turnovers and had 16 turnovers of their own. SDSU had a 42-10 advantage in points in the paint.
The Jacks improved to 14-5 overall and 6-0 in Summit League play. Theyll host Oral Roberts on Sunday and the Golden Eagles are tied for second place in the conference with a 5-1 record and are also 14-5 overall. Tip off between the Golden Eagles and Jackrabbits is scheduled for 3 p.m. and you can watch the game on CBS Sports Network.
