High school girls basketball roundup: Flandreau stays undefeated as Arlington beats Florence Henry

Flandreau improved to 10-0 on the season and Arlington picked up another win as part of Tuesdays area girls basketball action.

Flandreau 71, Madison 29

FLANDREAU The Fliers improved to 10-0 by beating the Bulldogs at Flandreau High School on Tuesday night.

The Fliers jumped ahead 21-6 at the end of the first quarter and took a 49-10 lead into halftime. Flandreau was up 63-19 at halftime and the Bulldogs won the fourth quarter 10-8.

Lily Klein had 23 points and four assists for the Fliers while Lizzie Pavlis had 14 points. Claire Sheppard had 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists while Sadie Iott had nine points in the win.

Audrey Nelson led Madison with 14 points.

Flandreau will take part in the Big East Conference tournament beginning on Thursday night.

Arlington 51, Florence Henry 44

ARLINGTON The Cardinals took the lead into halftime and never looked back to defeat the Falcons on Tuesday night.

Florence Henry held a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter but the Cardinals used a 12-7 advantage in the second quarter to take a 20-17 lead into the half. Arlington extended its lead to 33-28 at the end of the third quarter and out-scored the Falcons 18-16 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

Jaelyn Huntimer had 14 points, eight rebounds, two steals, two assists and a block for the Cardinals while Addalyn Steffensen had 14 points, five rebounds, a steal and an assist. Isabelle Steffensen had nine points and three rebounds and Harley Johnson had eight points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Caylin Kelly had 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Falcons while Taylor Watson had 10 points and four rebounds. Reese Schmidt also had eight points, two assists and a rebound.

Arlington shot 43 percent from the floor including 2-for-10 (20%) on 3-pointers. The Cardinals shot 15-of-22 (68.2%) from the free throw line and committed 12 turnovers.

Florence Henry shot 34 percent from the floor including 3-for-12 (25%) on 3-pointers and made 11-of-17 (64.7%) free throws. The Falcons committed 17 turnovers and outrebounded the Cardinals 33-27.

The Cardinals improved to 9-2 with the win and will host Estelline/Hendricks on Friday night.
