High school boys basketball roundup: Flandreau Fliers pick up win against Garretson

Flandreau picked up a win over Garretson while Elkton-Lake Benton and Arlington were also in action on the area high school boys basketball slate on Tuesday night.

Flandreau 48, Garretson 25

FLANDREAU The Fliers defeated the Blue Dragons in a home matchup on Tuesday night.

The Fliers led 8-3 at the end of the first quarter and led 20-11 at halftime. Flandreau led 34-19 at the end of the third quarter and out-scored the Blue Dragons 14-6 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

Luke Sheppard had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Fliers while Xavier Bien had nine points.

The Fliers improved to 8-4 with the win and will travel to Dell Rapids on Jan. 30.

Dell Rapids 59, Elkton-Lake Benton 40

ELKTON The Elks fell behind early and dropped a matchup to the Quarriers on Tuesday night.

Dell Rapids jumped ahead 17-9 at the end of the first quarter and led 34-19 at halftime before taking a 46-33 lead into the fourth quarter and out-scoring ELB 13-7 in the final frame.

Tanner Drietz led ELB with 18 points, five rebounds and a steal while Carson Griffith put up 10 points, three rebounds and an assist. Colt Beck had nine points, three rebounds and three assists and Blake DeVries had two points, three rebounds and a steal.

Jack Henry led Dell Rapids with 18 points while Rhett Uloth had 14 points. Treyse Eastmen had 12 points and Cole Ruesink added nine points for the Quarriers.

The Elks fell to 3-7 with the loss and will host Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Thursday night.

Florence Henry 66, Arlington 55

ARLINGTON The Cardinal fell to the Falcons in the back end of a doubleheader on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter before the Falcons led 38-26 at halftime. Florence Henry led 54-47 at the end of the fourth quarter but out-scored Arlington 12-8 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

Paxton Rheault led Arlington with 18 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Riley Miller had 14 points and two rebounds. Miles Antonen had nine points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal and Breck Vossler had nine points, two steals and an assist. Leilan Farstad grabbed six rebounds in the loss.

Carson Vavruska led Florence Henry with 17 points and had four assists, two rebounds and a block. Ty Bergh had 14 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block. Logan Koll had 12 points, eight rebounds, an assist and a steal and James Schroeder had 10 points, four rebounds and a block.

Arlington shot 33 percent in the game including 10-for-32 (34.5%) on 3-pointers. Arlington made 5-of-15 (50%) free throws and committed 18 turnovers.

Florence Henry shot 40 percent from the floor including 3-of-17 (17.6%) on 3-pointers. The Falcons made 13-of-26 (50%) of their free throws, out-rebounded the Cardinals 43-42 and committed 11 turnovers.

The Cardinals fell to 1-7 and will host Estelline/Hendricks on Thursday.
