The Dakota Valley Conference Classic was held in Elkton and White Saturday and eight area basketball teams participated in it. On the girls side Estelline/Hendricks and Deubrook Area picked up victories. Deubrook Area and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland secured wins on the boys side.
IN ELKTON
Girls
Estelline/Hendricks 45, Luverne (MN) 37
The Redhawks improved to 7-5 with the win. Estelline/Hendricks led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 23-13 lead into halftime. Luverne would outscore the Redhawks 11-6 in the third to cut the lead to five heading into the final quarter but Estelline/Hendricks had a 16-13 advantage in the final quarter to get the win.
The Redhawks had three players score in double figures. Sadie Johnson, Brooke Johnson and Ayla Texley all had 13 points. Luveren was led by Tori Serie who had 14 points. Kiesli Smith had 12 points.
The Redhawks will travel to Arlington on Friday to take on the Cardinals at 6 p.m.
Hills-Beaver Creek 46, Colman-Egan 40
The Hawks dropped to 7-3 with the loss. Colman-Egan led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter and then trailed 19-17 at halftime. Each team scored 14 points in the third quarter to make it 33-31 HBC heading into the fourth. HBC then outscored CE 13-9 in the fourth to make the final 46-40.
Brynlee Landis led Colman-Egan with 23 points. Lanie Mousel had 10 points. Abbie Harris led HBC with 18 points.
The Hawks play at Garretson on Monday night at 7:15 and host Castlewood on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Boys
Mount Vernon/Plankinton 52, Elkton-Lake Benton 47
The Elks fell to 3-6 with the loss. They led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter but then trailed 17-16 at halftime. MVP extended its lead to 36-29 at the end of the third. ELB outscored MVP 18-16 in the fourth quarter but that wasnt enough and the Elks dropped the game.
Tanner Drietz led the Elks with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Colt Beck had seven points.
The Elks host Dell Rapids on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Luverne (MN) 66, Estelline/Hendricks 42
The Redhawks fell to 6-4 after the loss. They led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter and then trailed 31-25 at halftime. Luveren had a strong second half as it outscored EH 35-17 and cruised to the win.
Braxton Pravecek led the Redhawks with 12 points. Wyat James had nine points. Carter Sehr led Luverene with 20 points.
The Redhawks play at Arlington on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
IN WHITE
Girls
Deubrook Area 57, Canby (MN) 26
The Dolphins improved to 5-9 and with the win. They jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter and then led 26-10 at halftime. Deubrook extended the lead to 49-22 at the end of the third and won the game easily.
Kylee Johnson led the Dolphins with 19 points. Kadence Bowne had 13 points and Kyarra Blum had nine points.
The Dolphins play at Dell Rapids St. Mary at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 47, Aberdeen Christian 41
The Raiders improved to 3-10 with the victory. They led 19-6 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 33-15 lead into halftime. Aberdeen Christian cut the lead to 38-25 in the third quarter and then outscored ORR 16-9 in the fourth quarter but it wasnt enough and the Raiders won.
Bailey Hyland led ORR with 23 points. Julia Trygstad had 11 points for the Raiders. Aberdeen Christian was led by Sophia Fogarty and Chloe Holt who each had 10 points.
Boys
Minneota 60, Deubrook Area 58
The Dolphins fell to 6-6 after the loss. Minneota led 17-8 at the end of the first and the Dolphins then outscored Minneota 23-10 in the second and took a 31-27 lead into halftime. Minneota then outscored Deubrook 16-14 in the third to cut the lead to two heading into the fourth. They then had a 17-13 advantage in the fourth and that gave Minneota the win.
Jake Jorenby led the Dolphins with 21 points. Colton Trooien had 14 points and Gavin Landmark had 11 points. Minneota was led by Max Rost who had 22 points and Peyton Sheik had 18 points.
The Dolphins play at Dell Rapids St. Mary on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Canby (MN) 80, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 48
ORR dropped to 2-9 with the loss. Canby led 24-13 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 46-24 lead into halftime. They then led 71-35 at the end of the third and cruised to the victory.
ORR was led by Caden Hojer who had 20 points. Boyd Pooler and Brayden Hanson each had 10 points. Zach Ouruda had 16 points to lead Canby. Mike Toi and Bryant Hansen each had 10 points.
The Raiders host Sioux Falls Lutheran at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
